I'm eating organic chocolate and drinking lime Perrier. As an after breakfast snack. I swear, I'm part Hobbit. Seven to ten meals a day.
*leaving the Nimes airport, I plucked some of the lavender that was growing on the tarmac. It's still in my pocket and very fragrant. Is lavender more fragrant in France?
*Dairy products are yummier in Europe. Why? I had some yogurt in teeny tiny colorful cups that I vaguely remember from when I lived in Aix. I think its Dannon. Anyway, it was so creamy and so FLAVORFUL. Peachy. Creamy. Why can't we make yogurt like that? Oy with the low fat this and the low carb that. how about some actual flavor, y'all!
*One of my favorite desserts in France was fresh nectarines with creme fraiche poured over it. Simple and succulent.
Pain au chocolate and a chocolate chaud in the Dijon train station after a long overnight train from Firenze. Savoring the flaky pastry and thinking about MFK Fisher living in Dijon. Wondering where my friend Caroline is.
*Footwear has really changed in Europe. There has been a tennis shoe revolution! You used to really be able to spot the Americans. You still mostly can, but lots of Euros are sporting the comfie footwear. Never used to see that.
I'm back. Italy was heaven itself. A great deal of gelato was consumed, my favorite being the blueberry gelato from Giolitti
Like blueberries would taste if you were on Ecstacy in heaven. That's how good! (Does stuff taste good when you're on ecstacy? i have no idea.) Rome was definitely a favorite. I am newly in love with Roma--her fountains full of cold, aqueduct water that you can splash on your neck or drink in big thirsty gulps. Roma is a walker's paradise and I loves to walk, especially on a warm summer night.
Ah, yes. And now I am back in The Land of Car Worship, Southern California. Was ever a lass more misplaced?
